Melissa Crowe is the author of Dear Terror, Dear Splendor (University of Wisconsin Press, 2019). See "Learn More" for more information about this wonderful poet. This is a two-day event. Melissa will read on Friday night, and on Saturday morning, she will provide a seminar.

Melissa Crowe's work has appeared recently in Four Way Review, New England Review, Poetry, and Poetry Northwest, and she was the 2021 winner of the Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America. She coordinates the MFA program at UNCW, where she teaches poetry and publishing.

Working the Line
In this session, we’ll explore “line logic," the line as the poem’s primary unit of composition; we’ll pay some attention to how skilled poets make choices about line length and line breaks, and we’ll have a look at the ways in which contemporary poets trouble or test convention, fiddling with a line's music and structure, perhaps discovering new ways to create tension and energy.
