Early in his career, Charles had an underground play Visigoth produced in Los Angeles, which led to script writing contracts for several TV series, including Kojack and Here Come the Brides. He fled Hollywood, got an MFA in poetry, and went to Iran to teach literature at several Universities. His most recent volume of poetry is the current above (2025). For five years, he edited Seizure, a magazine of poetry and fiction. His work has been published widely in literary journals. His poems and stories have been anthologized in Road Poets and Karma in the High Peaks, which won the 2010 Adirondack Center for Writing’s People’s Choice Award for best book. His most recent works are a collection of short stories, Raptures, Waking Up in a Beautiful Room, a volume of poetry, and Cure Cottage, five one-act plays.
