    The Lyric Poem Prize

    Kit Loney

    Influence of Two Moons

    Snake is tongue, asking
    the difficult question.

    Leaf is river that language
    has forgotten,

    pierced with birdsong,
    slivers of lightning.

    Spider is constellation,
    sky full of doors.

Wisteria holds time in both arms,
searches for somewhere to put it down.

Two Moons tells us these stories
    until night’s voice thins

    to a single thread,
    sliding through fingers.
