    Winter Garden

    The garden looks lifeless

    in February's cold

    and long deep frost

    twigs and branches stripped

    by shifting freezing winds

    now seem silent sentinels

but to unburdened plants this time

    of freedom from the weight

    of flowers and fruit

gives time to swirl and tum

and twirl a dance of joy

    unfettered in the breeze
