About the event
Poetry & Cinema
As a literary art, the study and practice of poetry has predominantly been focused linguistically and on prosody. The primary analytical terms—speaker, diction, syntax, prosody, etc.—derive from its verbal medium and its relationship with song—rhyme, rhythm, verse, stanza.
Analyzing poetry cinematically enlarges this traditional approach. It not only dissects the play of language but also considers its effect on the mind's eye of those listening in an audience and/or a reader. By thinking of poetry as something projected and "screened" on one's imagination, poets gain another way to approach their authorial decisions. This can have a profound effect when envisioning various revisions.
