Spring Contests

Spring Competitions, Submissions open January 15. Deadline February 15

Prizes will be awarded at the Forum in May, or mailed to those not in attendance.

The Audubon Prize: $200.

For a poem that honors The Nature Conservancy in SC, highlighting the
struggles to save endangered wildlife or capturing the efforts to conserve the natural environment in
South Carolina. Open to PSSC members only.

Scotty Davis Watson Prize: $100.

For a poem of any style about finding tiny moments of joy. Open to PSSC members only.

The John Robert Doyle, Jr., Prize:  $100.

Designed to commemorate the long and able service of Professor Doyle to The Society. Offered for a poem of any style or nature. Open to PSSC members only.

The Forum Prize:  $200.

Honors the Writers' Group of PSSC. Offered for a poem of any style or nature. Open to PSSC members only. The Spring Forum critic will choose the finalists; the winning poem will be selected by audience vote at the Spring Forum.

The Peter Pan Prize:  $50.

Offered for a poem written about childhood. Open to anyone.

Rhyme for No Reason Contest: $250.

For a poem on any subject, serious to frivolous, employing rhyme and/or rhyme and meter. Past winners might have included Ogden Nash (oeuvre), Robert Frost (“Fire and Ice”), S. T. Coleridge (“Kubla Kahn”), A.A. Milne, and all other poets who “just had fun with it.” Open to PSSC members only.

The Dr. Linda Veldheer Memorial Prize: $200. 

Offered for a rhymed, metrical poem about love/marriage. Open to anyone.

Bobbi Kennedy Memorial Prize: $100.

Offered for a poem of any style on a nature or spiritual theme. Open to PSSC Members only.
