About the event

The Poetry Society of South Carolina first met 100 years ago this month. January is also our traditional open mic. To celebrate, we are having a special guest, Harlan Greene, to give a short talk on the history of the PSSC and the greater Charleston Renaissance. Harlan Greene is Scholar in Resident at Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston. As an archivist he processed many of the papers of the founders of the Poetry Society and has published extensively on them and the era of the Charleston Renaissance. He is also the author of three novels and other works focusing on the history of the lowcountry. He wrote the biography of PSSC founder John Bennett, "Mister Skylark: John Bennett and the Charleston Renaissance and knew many of the early members of the PSSC. Following the presentation, we will hold our annual members' open mic. To get on the list, paid members should email FlatBlueSky@hotmail.com to secure one of the 13 spots available.
