The Peter Pan Prize:

Winner:  Danielle Verwers

Bluegrass Music

She presses the blade

between the heels of her hand

and thumb tips

lets her lips connect

to skin.

A warm breath

fills expectant palms, tempts

the long stem of blue

grass to play a song.

Judge Comments: The poem showcases the intimacy between instrument and musician to create, using vibrant, clever images along with short, intense lines to pique our interest. Its lyrical quality stands out as a song of its own.
